The Nutcracker™

Long ago on a cold Christmas Eve in Germany, Dr. and Frau Stahlbaum were decorating their Christmas tree and preparing to host a holiday party. Little Marie and her even littler brother Fritz fell asleep in the hallway outside their living room because they had been waiting so long for their parents to open the doors and show them the sparkling tree. They soon woke up and began fighting over who could peek through the keyhole for a glimpse of the tree. Their friends and relatives started to arrive for the Christmas party, distracting Marie and Fritz from their arguing. Soon, their parents welcomed everyone into the living room where the tree glittered over piles of presents.

After everyone settled down and warmed up from the cold, Dr. Stahlbaum gathered the children together for a dance. They marched and skipped until their parents presented them with new toys for the holiday. Suddenly, the room grew dark and a mysterious old gentleman and a young boy entered, interrupting the festivities. The old man, who was dressed all in black with a patch over one eye, a mop of silver hair, and a huge cape trailing behind him, turned out to be Marie's beloved godfather, Herr Drosselmeier. He had brought his handsome young nephew with him, whom he introduced to Marie.
