Russian National Ballet Theater performs Romeo and Juliet and Choppiana Friday, February 18 7:30pm - Single tickets $40 and $70 Enjoy this Valentine’s weekend presentation of the timeless, tale of “love at first sight.” Shakespeare’s testament to the power of love, set in sixteenth century Verona, Italy, tells of young lovers whose families are involved in a bitter feud. In disguise, they meet at a masked ball, then in a romantic encounter on Juliet’s balcony, one of the most famous scenes in theater, fall head-over-heels in love and secretly wed. Danced to the brilliant music of Segei Prokofiev. Chopiniana (Les Sylphides) is homage to the tradition that a Russian ballet performance always began with a “white” ballet.” First performed in 1908, Chopiniana essentially is a plotless ballet, set to eight brief orchestrated Chopin piano pieces. A poet dances in a forest glade with some lovely maidens (probably of his imagination) and, although nothing happens, it is unforgettable.
